The Eagala Model is a team approach that includes a registered, qualified Mental Health Professional, a qualified Equine Specialist and horses working together with the client.
All the sessions are ground-based. There is no horse riding involved and experience with horses is not necessary to partake in Equine-Assisted Therapy.
Client-centred and solution-oriented
The model encompasses the belief that people learn the best by doing, a hands-on approach to therapy, where clients are invited to uses the sessions as a space for exploration, gain new awareness on their situation and make connection.
Horses are fundamental part of the team
Horses are herd animals and for their survival they constantly check for safety. Being fight/flights creatures, they instinctively scan and react to our non-verbal behaviour, picking up on messages we are projecting which we are not always conscious we are doing. The horses allow us to be in the moment and gain awareness of our own non-verbal behaviour.
